Updates related to Educator Preparation Program Management

New: Clarification on the Vetted Teacher Residency Program Application

The 2023 Vetted Teacher Residency Program Application remains open through 6/9/23. The application includes several questions about the applicant’s intent to scale and sustain the residency model. These questions are information seeking only and are non-scored components of the application.

New: Coming Soon - Reading Academies Working Group Application

In February, the Reading Academies Team and Educator Quality Team hosted a Reading Academies for EPP webinar. As an outcome of the webinar, several programs have expressed interest in opting in to the 2023-2024 EPP Reading Academies working group. TEA plans to launch an application this month for the opportunity. More information to come!

Reminder: Updated Public Reports

Back in January, we at TEA launched our Newly Certified and New Teacher Hires Dashboard, a suite of dashboards that provides answers to several essential questions on teacher certification and employment patterns across the state. We have updated these dashboards to reflect data from the current reporting year (2022-2023) and are excited to share these updates with you. The updated dashboard can be found through this link.

In addition, we have updated the reports on our Educator Reports and Data Page, which provide information about teacher demographics, teacher attrition and retention, teacher shortages, mathematics and science teachers, and administrators in Texas.

Reminder: Employment Data to be distributed

Based on requests from the field, TEA now makes data sets available to EPPs that contain five years of employment data for finishers. This is our third year of providing this data, and we have updated it with the new 2022-2023 employment data. These data sets include TEA IDs, LEA of employment, Campus, Course Assignments, Population Served, and Pay. This data was planned to be distributed by May 3.

These data sets will be available in your Sharefile folder. EPPs will receive a notification email once the data has been distributed. For assistance with Sharefile, please view this guide. If you still have questions about Sharefile, please send a Helpdesk ticket. Our team will respond to support you accessing the data in the Sharefile.

Please note – while some of this information will be available in the Insight to Impact Dashboard (once our annual data refresh is completed), we know that some EPPs are making use of this raw data in different ways, and so we wanted to continue this data distribution.

Reminder: Input on the Current Draft of the SBEC’s Effective Preparation Framework

The SBEC’s Effective Preparation Framework (EPF) aims to define the highest leverage practices effective Texas educator preparation programs strive to implement daily. The EPF has been developed in response to a desire from the SBEC and the field to define a Texas vision for high-quality educator preparation and support EPP continuous improvement.

In December 2023, the SBEC provided feedback to TEA staff to further refine the draft framework to ensure continuous improvement and performance management practices were clearly articulated and to ensure stronger alignment to the state's Effective District and Effective School Frameworks. As a result of the need for further refinement, a wide range of stakeholders have worked to update the current draft of the EPF over the past few months.

To further inform this development process, we are soliciting feedback on the current draft of the EPF. The deadline to submit feedback is 5:00 pm on May 11, 2023.  Please email comments to TexasEPF@tea.texas.gov.

FAQs

We take this space to highlight questions that we have heard from EPPs.

Q: Is there a new Help Desk now?

A: Yes, the new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Help Desk went live on Monday May 1, 2023, at 7:00 AM. You should not experience any issues with the Help Desk. If you are having difficulty accessing the Help Desk, you may need to refresh your cache. To do so, press CTRL SHIFT DEL simultaneously to clear it, and then you should be set. Also be advised that for the next few days after 5:00 PM, the Help Desk will be down to migrate tickets to the new Help Desk. We are still the Educator Testing and Preparation Programs tile that you access from the Help Desk link on the TEA website, and we are here to assist you in the Preparation Programs, Data Reporting, and Insight to Impact tiles. The only difference that you will notice is that you will receive an email from staff when we reply to your tickets. If you have questions about the CRM Help Desk, please contact your assigned Education Specialist.
