Educator Preparation Program Support

Updates related to Educator Preparation Program Management

New: Updated Public Reports

Back in January, we at TEA launched our Newly Certified and New Teacher Hires Dashboard, a suite of dashboards that provides answers to several essential questions on teacher certification and employment patterns across the state. We have updated these dashboards to reflect data from the current reporting year (2022-2023) and are excited to share these updates with you. The updated dashboard can be found through this link.

In addition, we have updated the reports on our Educator Reports and Data Page, which provide information about teacher demographics, teacher attrition and retention, teacher shortages, mathematics and science teachers, and administrators in Texas.

New: Employment Data to be distributed

Based on requests from the field, TEA now makes data sets available to EPPs that contain five years of employment data for finishers. This is our third year of providing this data, and we have updated it with the new 2022-2023 employment data. These data sets include TEA IDs, LEA of employment, Campus, Course Assignments, Population Served, and Pay. We are currently targeting the first week in May for distribution.

These data sets will be available in your Sharefile folder. EPPs will receive a notification email once the data has been distributed. For assistance with Sharefile, please view this guide. If you still have questions about Sharefile, please send a Helpdesk ticket. Our team will respond to support you accessing the data in the Sharefile.

Please note – while some of this information will be available in the Insight to Impact Dashboard (once our annual data refresh is completed), we know that some EPPs are making use of this raw data in different ways, and so we wanted to continue this data distribution.

Reminder: Input on the Current Draft of the SBEC’s Effective Preparation Framework

The SBEC’s Effective Preparation Framework (EPF) aims to define the highest leverage practices effective Texas educator preparation programs strive to implement daily. The EPF has been developed in response to a desire from the SBEC and the field to define a Texas vision for high-quality educator preparation and support EPP continuous improvement.

In December 2023, the SBEC provided feedback to TEA staff to further refine the draft framework to ensure continuous improvement and performance management practices were clearly articulated and to ensure stronger alignment to the state's Effective District and Effective School Frameworks. As a result of the need for further refinement, a wide range of stakeholders have worked to update the current draft of the EPF over the past few months.

To further inform this development process, we are soliciting feedback on the current draft of the EPF. The deadline to submit feedback is 5:00 pm on May 11, 2023.  Please email comments to TexasEPF@tea.texas.gov.

Reminder: Zendesk (Help Desk) Offline Friday 4/28/2023 at 6 PM

Update: The Help Desk will be offline and not accepting tickets beginning Friday 4/28/2023 at 6 PM CST. Please submit all Help Desk tickets to the current Help Desk by Wednesday at 5 PM so we can process and clear out the old Help Desk. The NEW Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Help Desk will be live beginning Monday 5/1/2023 at 7 AM CST. You will access the Help Desk in the same location, and it will look the same to end users.

Reminder: Action Required - Title II Reporting

The Title II website is now available for all EPPs to complete their required federal reporting. All EPP Title II representatives should have received notification via email. If your EPP’s Title II reporting lead did not receive an email, please reach out to title2@rti.org.

To begin, please log in to the system. Go to https://title2.ed.gov/ and select "Submit Reports" in the upper righthand corner of the webpage. Your username and password remain the same. To recover a username or password, select "Forgot your username or password?" and enter your email.

For support in completing this report, please visit https://title2.ed.gov/Public/TA.aspx for links to a Glossary of Key Terms and Reporting Requirements. Instructions are included in the reporting instrument. If you have specific questions, please email title2@rti.org.

This reporting is due May 19. As a reminder, TEA does not provide technical support for this required federal reporting. We do, however, monitor EPP completion to ensure that all EPPs are in compliance with this requirement.

Pro Tip: In the past, responses from the Title II Help Desk have been delayed during high volume times. We suggest doing this reporting as soon as possible, so that you can avoid any challenges with their Help Desk.

FAQs

We take this space to highlight questions that we have heard from EPPs.

Q: Applicants are sending in transcripts from Sophia Learning and Straighter Line for admission purposes. Are Sophia Learning and Straighter Line accredited universities?

A: Sophia Learning is not an accredited university. People can transfer credits earned to a partnering accredited university. Straighter Line is also not an accredited university. They have a similar situation where they partner with universities. Applicants can only use transcripts from an accredited university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) for admission purposes. Reference 19 TAC 227.10(a)(1) and (2) for additional information.

Q: I noticed that the Help Desk will be down beginning at 6 PM on Friday. How will that affect our EPP’s ability to submit Help Desk tickets?

A: Please submit any Help Desk tickets that you have by Wednesday, April 26, 2023, by 5 PM CST. This will allow TEA staff to clear out the Help Desk in preparation for the new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Help Desk on Monday May 1, 2023. You will not see a change in the way you submit Help Desk tickets, but it will look new for TEA staff.
