Become an LSG Coach

Are you interested in helping school governing teams understand and implement adult behaviors that lead to improved student outcomes? Consider becoming a Lone Star Governance Coach.

Becoming a Lone Star Governance coach is a rewarding, months-long journey that begins with learning about the state assessment and accountability systems; progresses to studying inputs, outputs, outcomes, and progress monitoring; continues with understanding how mindset influences our actions; and ends with successful co-facilitation of an LSG workshop with a partner coach.

If you're interested, check out our Becoming a Lone Star Governance Coach resource. For more information, contact lsg@tea.texas.gov.

2023–24 Exemplar Cohort

The data is clear: good governance relates to higher student performance. The LSG Exemplar Cohort is a one-year program designed to unleash the strategic impact of your board-superintendent team. By the end of your yearlong LSG experience, your governance team will have mastered connecting the dots from mindset to vision, goals, and progress monitoring, leading to improved student outcomes.

More information on the Lone Star Governance Exemplar Cohorts is available on the LSG Exemplar Cohort page.

The opportunity to submit your letter of interest for the Lone Star Governance (LSG) Exemplar Cohort for the 2023–24 school year is fast approaching. Look for an announcement coming soon.

This Month's Frequently Asked Question

What is Lone Star Governance, and how does it work?

Lone Star Governance (LSG) is an optional, first-of-its-kind training initiative.

Founded on research, LSG is a continuous-improvement model for governing teams—boards in collaboration with their superintendents—who choose to focus intensely on only one primary objective: improving student outcomes.

Governance teams express this intense focus through a tailored execution of the five aspects of the Texas Framework for School Board Development: vision, accountability, structure, unity, and advocacy.

In addition to driving a focus on improving student outcomes, the LSG philosophy and practices provide a system for managing the board's vital, though secondary, legal and fiscal responsibilities.
